Philip Cabot papers, 1885-1942 ; bulk: 1924-1941.

The collection consists of the papers of Philip Cabot, Professor of Utility Management and Business Administration, and expert on public utilities, 1885-1942. The collection includes correspondence, speeches, articles, transcripts, studies, reports, clippings, teaching notes, and annotated cases documenting the development of public utility management courses taught in the 1920s and early 1930s under the sponsorship of the National Electric Light Association. The collection includes correspondence, agendas and administrative papers of Cabot's monthly meetings of the Business Executives Discussion Group (later called the New England Conference on National Defense), 1934-1941; original notes and cases used in public utility management classes; reports on local publc utilities written with colleague Lester Ginsburg, 1925-1937; a scrapbook of clippings collected by Cabot, 1926-1929; and correspondence with friends, family and colleagues on Harvard-related groups such as the Harvard Political Union, Students Service for Defense (the Harvard Chapter of American Student Defense League), Committee on Observation of 25th Year of School, American Quartermaster Corps (ROTC), and financial contributions to Baker Library. Personal papers include correspondence with his father and mother, James Elliot and Elizabeth Dwight Cabot, brother Hugh Cabot, and friends James Bryant Conant, Donald David, Deane Malott, Lincoln Filene, among others, 1885-1941; and letters discussing his death and funeral, 1942. Subject files include personal and professional correspondence with friends and business leaders including David H. Morris of the Bank of New York, Harvey P. Hood, and Colby M. Chester of General Foods, among others.

Michael Harvey Malott was an Abilene, Kansas banker and founder of Bank of Malott and Company, later Citizens Bank, in 1885.
